Marine Debris Project
The Department of Environment Regulation (DER) provides environmental services to the Commonwealth Government for the Indian Ocean Territories (IOT).
Funded by the Federal Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the five-year Marine Debris Project is supported by the Federal Government, DER, the Shire of Cocos (Keeling) Islands and not-for-profit organisation Tangaroa Blue Foundation.
It aims to help the 600-person Cocos (Keeling) Islands’ community—2750 kilometres northwest of Perth— deal with the marine debris that floats onto and close to the island with the tides, and also pinpoint its source.
For more information or to volunteer for the project, see details on DER project partner Keep Australia Beautiful Council’s website.
