Indian Ocean Climate Initiative

The State Government established the Indian Ocean Climate Initiative (IOCI) in 1998, a strategic research partnership with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), to investigate the causes of the changing climate in WA and to develop projections of the future climate in the State.  The IOCI research findings provide an insight into a range of climate phenomena including the further drying of the climate of south-west WA and the likely intensification of future tropical cyclones impacting on north-west WA.
