The Government is introducing an improved cost recovery model for environmental regulation including fees for works approvals, licences and registrations to speed up approvals, grow the economy and create jobs.

Improvements will also be made to the prescribed amendment fee for licences and works approvals.

The improved fee model reflects the true cost of environmental regulation for industry and will commence on 1 July 2018.

Additional revenue will be directed at employing additional staff, in both industry regulation and compliance areas, as well as investing in systems to improve the timeliness of decision-making on environmental approvals.

Information on proposed improved fees are available in the Industry Regulation fees FAQs

Calculation of Annual Licence Fees

DWER has clarified the operation of the EP Regulations in the determination of annual licence fees in the Fact Sheet: Industry Regulation fees. This Fact Sheet clarifies fees will be calculated based on actual production or discharge quantities and charged accordingly.

Information about how and when proposed improved fees would be charged are available in the Industry Regulation fees FAQs.

Calculation of Amendment Fees

Amendments to the Environmental Protection Regulations 1987 (EP Regulations) took effect on 1 July 2016 to include the provision of prescribed fees for applications to amend works approvals and licences.

To support the introduction of the amended EP Regulations, DWER has published a Fact Sheet: Amendments to Works Approvals and Licences and has updated its application form, available at www.der.wa.gov.au/our-work/licences-and-works-approvals/applications and supporting guidance material.

An amendment fee calculator for the existing 2017/18 fee is available here.

An amendment fee calculator for the proposed 2018/19 fee that will be applicable from 1 July 2018 is available here
